Aireville Park, Skipton

Designed in close collaboration with the local community, this inclusive playground gives local children, of all abilities, plenty of opportunities to play and socialise. We worked with Craven District council who co-ordinated the project and Friends of Aireville park who raised most of the funds, which were combined with some available section 106 monies.

With an initial plan and topographical survey by a landscape architect, we designed a destination park in keeping with the surroundings, using the existing landscape to create an inspiring space for all generations. Our designers were flexible in incorporating natural looking timber equipment within the project, resulting in a unique play space that can’t be found anywhere else.

We used a variety of surfacing to provide several different experiences for the children, from wet pour, play chip, sand and Eco Mulch. This provides lots of opportunities for sensory play and the choice of equipment challenges users from the ages of 2 all the way up to 12. The design of the layout provides natural progression through the site as the children’s ability grows.

Feedback on the site opening day (tied in with a community picnic) was fantastic. Friends of Aireville park were very pleased, as were hundreds of parents & children who were at the park for most of the day.

Fiona Protheroe, Friends of Aireville Park:

“We wanted a destination park and something for everyone to enjoy. Now we’ve got it!”

Sharon Hudson, Craven District Council:

“We made sure this a play area the local children really wanted, whilst having lots of play value within”.
