Stratford St Mary Playground
The key to any successful play area is including the right mix of activities with graduated challenges for children of many ages and abilities. This may include easy elements that are popular to do over and over again, and more difficult challenges that build confidence when conquered and develop strength and interactive skills whilst trying. The existing playground in the village of Stratford St Mary was old, in a state of disrepair and very under-used. The £23,000 project, which had been in the pipeline for 18 months, was paid for with generous donations from the Tesco Bags of Help appeal, Stratford Parish Council and Babergh District Council.
HAGS designed the playground with the help of the village’s primary school pupils, and the School Council (representing every year at the school) made the final decision between two designs. The equipment chosen for Stratford St Mary playground incorporated many of the main play activities, within both the space and the budget available. Stratford St Mary celebrated their brand new playground recently with a grand opening attended by local residents and the local Primary School. All of the pupils attended the event, plus teachers and even the Head Teacher.
Playground committee member, Laura Carney, said “Monkey bars, swings and a slide were on our wish-list, but top of the suggestions was a zip wire! The new equipment has been a huge boost for the village.”
