Getting all ages active in Swaffham
Following many years of fundraising, and then some successful grant bid applications in 2016, the residents of Swaffham Town Council helped raise a total of £150,000, enabling plans to be brought to life for fantastic new sports facilities at the Recreation Ground at Haspalls Road, Swaffham.
HAGS were awarded the tender to supply a fantastic new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) with Wheelscape providing the Skate Park.
The new sports facility consists of a 22m Arena Duo with basketball hoops, target panels and goals, and an Oregon 4-sided skills wall. These are surrounded by a running track, table tennis tables and fitness graphics, providing a true Multi-Use sports area. It provides opportunities for running, fitness training, basketball, football, goal-shoot practice, table tennis, cricket skills, roller skating, scooters and more!
The residents of Swaffham enjoyed a fantastic celebration last week to mark the opening of their long-awaited new sports facility. The event was attended by both young and old making full use of the new facilities from ball games to scooters to running races! Personal trainers were on-hand to help organise the fun and the children were treated to goodie bags, snack boxes and fruit smoothies. Even the Town Crier practiced his basketball skills!
Helen Sephton-Pike, Area Sales Manager said “This is a fantastic achievement for the town and a great example of bringing people together for a common cause. It was really great to see just how a well-designed MUGA can be used and by such a wide spectrum of the community in age and abilities.”
